We needed to create a report with basically all of the most important information we had found throughout the process, in a professional and sleek manner. I decided to create my report as the very last thing instead of creating it during all the stages because I thought it would be easier to plan all my pages because I already had all the content. We had to create our reports on a software called InDesign, something I had absolutely no experience with. This was something that was quite daunting because I had no idea how easy or hard it was to use. And oh boy, did I find it hard.
To be honest, I definitely did not leave enough time to complete the report to the absolute best of my abilities. I found the software a lot harder to use than I originally thought, as I thought it would be quite similar to Photoshop, but oh no, it is nothing alike. Small little things you have to do in InDesign otherwise it’ll lock you out or it’ll freeze and instantly cause an immediate panic unlike anything before. But alas, I did get it all done on time. However, I wouldn’t say I was completely happy with it as I know I could have done some parts a lot better. Although, I’m seeing this as a lesson, next time I need to allocate a lot more time for InDesign and keep practicing it in the meantime, so I don’t forget how to use it. I’m happy with still doing it at the end of all my research because it definitely helped knowing what more I needed to do as I was completing it.
Some say that you are your own worst critic, but I am still happy with some parts of the report. I had to create a couple more collages and drawings to fill space or visually explain my ideas as we had a word limit but not an image limit, and these are actually some of my favourite features.
Here are a couple of the pages:
Upon reflection, I should have allocated more time with this project to begin with and I wish I was more motivated with it at the start. As time went on and I enjoyed it more, I was doing more work. So, I just need to learn to jump over that initial hurdle and power through. This has almost been a test run for me, creating my first visual report using InDesign, something I hope to learn a lot more about and develop my style with. I am happy I have something physical to show my work and hope I only improve from here.
On to the next project!
