jacquemus a/w 20

This collection. WOW. I just need a space to express how much I truly love it and want to wear every single piece. I was calmly scrolling through my Instagram when various fashion pages began posting photos from the show, as well as backstage, and I was flabbergasted by the absolute beauty of it. Now, some may see it as a pretty simple and basic show. But that’s what it was. It was stripped back, a simple white catwalk for all the beautiful models to walk upon, wearing clothing and accessories in earthy fabrics with no prints, no embellishments, and no distractions. All the ensembles were crafted from natural-looking linens and cheesecloth, fabrics we don’t often see on catwalks nowadays.

“I thought about the collection as a ‘vestiaire’, very timeless and very minimal” Simon Porte Jacquemus explained. This has been covered with the same beige and earthy tones, but also Simon touched on a very relevant topic, the idea of simplifying the production process to become more environmentally friendly. Jacquemus made a conscious effort to try and be less wasteful, explaining why there may be some repetitions in the collection. “We don’t need a hundred fabrics in the collection — maybe we need 15 and they can be better” he said, which I think is the approach more designers need to go ahead with, there is no need to have a completely different fabric for each look. In fact, I like the similarities in each of the looks because I think it makes it look like a very cohesive collection and makes it more memorable as a whole collection instead of one specific look.

Laetitia Casta, the beautiful 90s French supermodel, opened the show in a stone-grey pencil skirt and bralette cardigan, followed by her modern-day counterparts: Bella Hadid, Adut Akech, Gigi Hadid, Joan Smalls, etc, in the most beautiful dresses: thigh-high slits, tiny nipped-in waists, thigh-skimming lengths. It was all just so stunning.

At one-point, Gigi pulled hair to the side and flicked it back with some sass, receiving a loud “YASSSS!” from across the room. An iconic moment.

I just loved every single look of this due to its simplicity. One-toned looks but with different lengths and skin out with a bandana creating a look I definitely will be trying to recreate soon.

a personal favourite of mine

A beautiful collection, and shown on Simon's birthday! Celebrations all round.
