These images are my groups final outcome for the last stage of the FCP process. We first looked at a photoshoot from Vogue March 2014 called ‘Winning Streak’ by Mario Testino. We then had to summarise the shoot in 5 key words, which are what we based our shoot upon. We also had to incorporate a fashion accessory, ours was glasses, through our imagery.
Our 5 words that inspired our shoot were, ‘Austere Androgyny’ which was shown through the model, as the gender is unknown. ‘Championing Stereotypes’ was used to show that you don't need to look a certain way to fit in. We focused mostly on the colours for ‘80s Reborn’ which also linked into ‘Active Disco’ through the use of glow sticks and an underlying disco theme. ‘Track to Runway’ is shown through the linear positioning of the glow sticks.
Our photographs have a sinister demeanour throughout, represented through the reveal of the dark androgynous figure. At first, the sinister theme surrounds the ‘being’ and its actions, however, the real sinister aspect is the isolation of the individual from society. They want to fit in, so they wear these ‘trendy’ glasses and the bin bag, representing a mask, to hide their true identity and become the individuals they see. The neon lights (resembling the 80s) represent the chaos to escape the ‘being’, which creates a visual contrast between the darkness and the light, representing the divide between the ‘being’ and society.
I really enjoyed this stage of the FCP process with being able to physically see our successful outcome (well I think it’s successful anyway hehe). After finally whittling down so many of our ideas to this one I think we achieved photos that take a very different approach to the stereotypical Instagram model wearing sunglasses. I’m excited for future photoshoots and exploring different themes!
